Who Qualifies To Get A Bursary Or Student Loan From NSFAS?



The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has formally opened the 2025 application system.

Applications at the moment are open and can close on fifteen December 2024.

*** Who qualifies for NSFAS funding

To qualify for NSFAS funding, an applicant should meet the following requirements:

• Be a South African citizen or copyright who comes from a house which has a combined gross home income that does not exceed R350 000 for each annum.

• Individuals with disabilities qualify if their combined residence income will not exceed R600 000 per annum.

• SASSA recipients immediately qualify for funding and wish not submit any proof of income.

*** Loan Scheme for the Missing Middle

The NSFAS Loan Scheme for the missing middle website is open up to all South African citizens and permanent people from homes with combined R350 000 and R600 000 for each annum.

Applicants are reminded to offer the right Identity Document numbers, names, and surname, as mirrored inside their South African ID.

NSFAS only funds individuals who are researching or plan to study at a general public university or TVET college in South Africa.

All students who wish to study in any of the public universities and TVET colleges should apply timeously and not to wait until the last day.

Learners do not have to wait for matric results to apply for NSFAS. They should apply now and avoid delays in the processing of their application.
